Biography
Kate Lurain is a clinician-scientist focused on the development of novel therapies for HIV-associated and gammaherpesvirus-associated lymphomas and Kaposi sarcoma. She obtained her medical degree from the University of Virginia and Masters in Global Public Health from the George Washington University. She trained in Internal Medicine at the University of Chicago and in Hematology and Oncology at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) for fellowship. After fellowship, she joined the faculty in the HIV and AIDS Malignancy Branch at the NCI where she served as the Clinical Director, overseeing a multidisciplinary team designing and running clinical trials for people with HIV and cancer. She joined the Division of Hematology at the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center as an associate professor in August 2025. Her research has led to the development of pomalidomide and pembrolizumab for the treatment of Kaposi sarcoma and methotrexate and rituximab for the treatment of HIV-associated CNS lymphoma. She is recognized as an international expert in the co-management of HIV and cancer and in the care of patients with rare lymphomas and other virus-associated cancers.
